• Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau, queen of the bright shift dress, died on Sunday at her home in Palm Beach, Florida. The 81-year-old designer started creating dresses when, after a bout of depression, she opened a juice stand and needed to hide the juice spill stains on her clothes. She designed a series of brightly colored shift dresses that soon grabbed the attention of her customers, and were eventually worn by the likes of First Lady (and former classmate) Jacqueline Kennedy. Pulitzer, said to have been ill for the last couple weeks, is survived by her three children, Liza, Minnie, and Peter Jr. Her creations came to embody the image of the preppy All-American blue blood pedigree, and continue to do so today.  (WWD)• Here’s something sure to make July 4th outfit shopping a little easier: Macy’s is rolling out a very patriotic promotion set to run from May 15th all the way through Independence Day. The aptly named “American Icons” collection celebrates the legacy of American culture, drawing inspiration from cultural imagery (drive-in movies, denim, baseball, and the like), and our designers’ legacy in fashion. “American Icons” will include clothing offerings from several American designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors, as well as home goods. “Macy’s is America’s department store, and through this campaign we’re celebrating the unique people, places and things that make our country great,” Macy’s CMO Martine Reardon, told WWD. “This is one icon celebrating a lot of other icons.”  (WWD)• Carine Roitfeld‘s latest as global editor for Harper’s Bazaar features Kate Upton, Irina Shayk, Soo Joo Park, Senait Gidey, and Tilda Lindstam tending to a menagerie of baby zoo animals. (The Cut)• Beyoncé‘s people have released a director’s cut of her Mrs. Carter Show tour promo. …And a single gilded rococoutoure tear trickled down the collective cheek of the nations. (Perez Hilton) • Law enforcement has been cracking down on the dissemination of counterfeit designer items as of late, and lawmakers are also getting in on the fun. New York councilwoman Margaret Chin is proposing a bill to make the purchase of bootleg designer handbags illegal in New York City. It is currently illegal to sell fake designer bags, but, as the councilwoman points out, there is no penalty for the tourists and bargain hunters who keep the industry alive. Frugal fashionistas might soon have to kiss Canal street goodbye. If passed, Chin’s law would slap anyone caught buying the impostor goods with an up to $1,000 fine and no more than 1 year in prison. “Hopefully, this law will cut down on the demand,” she told the New York Post. What do you think? Should consumers also be punished for helping sustain the industry? (NYP)~Jihan

So it seems a lot of you are going to see Kanye and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne concert!Kimmi says, “I understand that you’ve covered what to wear to a concert plenty of times before. However, I will be attending the Watch the Throne concert on November 19 in Atlantic City. Given that Jay and Kanye are so iconic in music as well as fashion, that this deserves its own entry. So please, what to wear to Watch the Throne??” Erica added, “I am one of the lucky people to score tix to the Watch the Throne concert in Chicago Dec.1st. Can you please give me a few ideas on what to wear to the concert. Keep in mind, I am attending with my boyfriend, and we are going to the club afterwards…Help! And thanks in advance. :)”You lucky ladies. Ah, what I would give to rap “That $hit Cray,” along with Jay and ‘Ye. Sigh. For concerts I tend to go for casual, but as we saw at Rihanna’s New Jersey concert, you can get pretty dressy! For Erica, strike a balance between relaxed and glam by pairing a tank with a leather skirt, sequined jacket and practical heels:You’ll most likely be sitting most of the time, but if you want to turn it out for the club, heels it is! Just be sure to bring a pair of fast flats in your clutch:More Givenchy…If you’re more casual (ahem like me), I’d play it cool in black jeggings and a black leather jacket with a tank:More Givenchy…Get a few more options for less here:More Arden B…What do you think?

Happy Saturday!I’m down in New Orleans for the Essence Festival, and my trip has already been super fun thanks to events like McDonalds’s 365 Black Awards (golden carpet coverage to come!), delicious dinners, and concerts!Of course my main goal is to take pictures of fashionable Essence Festers.Take a look at a few fly women and men I snapped earlier today:A platinum cropped coiffe was the perfect complement to a brightly colored maxi dress, spied on the way to the Convention Center.A maxi dress was also the choice for this Essence goer, who flaunted a chain printed convertible option. Cute! The vibrant colors continued inside today’s venue, where this young lady played up printed shorts with a turquoise blouse and orange jacket.Similar eye catching tones were on tap for Carla of CarlazWorld. Her pink and green outfit came together with pink, green, and yellow sandals. Her colleague bet on a blue ruffled shift, accented by blue and purple peep toe pumps.Over on the convention floor, I said hey to Fashion Bomb reader and accessories designer Melanie of MelanieMarie.com. Get into the crop top!And lastly, after seeing Kevin Hart, Jill Scott, and Laz Alonso participate on Verizon’s Black Hollywood in Film panel, I stopped these two young men, who happened to be decked out in Verizon’s red and black colors. Their boombox made a lot of noise, and their ensembles were just as bold. That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more, and follow us on Instagram @FashionBombDaily for the blow-by-blow.What do you think of Real Style at Essence Music Festival?

Kanye showed he took copious notes during the menswear shows in Paris, wearing a straight off the runway Givenchy Embellished Plaid Shirt for the “We are the World” recording session in Hollywood:The blinged out button down is certainly a splurgeworthy purchase, but you can get the ‘everyman’ version for less with these relatively less shiny picks:As an aside, doesn’t this sorta seem like a random assortment of singers? Can Kanye sing? Maybe his voice just faded into the background. Any any rate, snaps for convening for a worthy cause.Source : Atlanta Street Dreams, Source & GQ
